Academics - Grades 6 to 8
Dual Track School with a French Immersion Program
The Arts - A variety of opportunities for artistic expression.
Pine Grove is proud to offer students the chance to explore their interest in music, art, and drama. Every year we produce a large musical which brings together all three of these areas. Options in art, music, and drama are offered and students in the senior one act play production have a chance to attend our regional one act festival each year.
Student Leadership - Leading with enthusiasm and charisma.
The students in our School Wellness Action Team plan activities for the student body and foster healthy initiatives around the school.
Technology - Integrating computers and digital devices as tools for learning.
With a focus on not only utilizing technology but also on digital citizenship, Pine Grove is working to help students work efficiently and ethically when using technology.
Sports - Offering a variety of extracurricular opportunities at all levels.
École Pine Grove Middle School competes within GYAC, the Grande Yellowhead Athletic Committee. Our school usually will enter teams and students in Volleyball, Cross Country Running, Golf, Basketball, Badminton, Track and Field, and Rugby.
We usually will have a "B" and "C" level team entered in the team sports and compete against older students in the individual sports as we promote having our Grade 6 students take part. All students can try out for any level team.
We share a team with Parkland so our top level athletes will still have the chance to play at a higher level by playing on a team with mostly grade nine students.
Cree/Michif and French as a Second Language Programming
This year grades 6, 7 and 8 students will have the chance to take Cree/Michif and grade 7 and 8 students will have the chance to take French (grade 6's all take French as part of their program). These classes will be held after lunch during the school-wide reading block with the following schedule:
Cree/Michif: Gr 6 - Friday, Gr 7 - Monday & Wednesday, Gr 8 - Tuesday & Thursday
French: Gr 7 - Monday & Wednesday, Gr 8 - Tuesday & Thursday
Traditional and Virtual Learning 2020-2021
In GYPSD, student learning is the number one priority. As an innovative school division, GYPSD acknowledges some students cannot function in the traditional school environment, requiring alternate options for completing their education. As such, GYPSD is excited to provide outstanding, flexible approaches for student learning.
*Traditional school experience (on-site)
*Virtual Education – ADLC programming supported virtually by ADLC teachers and local Learning Connection teachers (option for in-person support by Learning Connection teachers by appointment)
